~ Doorways to the Riddle ~

In 1950, the United States Ambassador to Cairo, Jefferson Caffery,

missed his favorite weekend relaxation after having been in France

for four years - he was an avid mountain climber.  Often, on the weekend,

he would drive to the Pyramids of Giza where he would challenge

the local guide to race to the top.

While the Ambassador was busy climbing, my friend John Simpson and I

were escorted to view the latest discovery at the local archaeological digs.

As we approached the amazing sight, I managed to capture with my Rolleflex,

a unique view of the Sphinx as seen through both doorways of a temple

dedicated to the Goddess Mout by Amenophis the II, Circa 1450 BCE.

These doorways were now finally brought out of the sand after over 2,000 years.

This 24" x 30" digitized print is the first in an edition of 100.
