Community Spotlight: Ukrainian Families
Today, we walk alongside Ukrainian families.
Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, millions of people have been displaced from their homes. Many have sought safety in neighboring countries and around the world while longing for peace and the day they can return home. Along the way, they have demonstrated remarkable resilience, preserving their culture, supporting one another, and contributing to the communities where they now live.
Today, we pray for peace in Ukraine and for every family rebuilding life while carrying hope for the future.
Scripture: Jeremiah 29:7 – “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
Reflection
Exile was never meant to be the end of God’s story.
When the people of Israel found themselves far from home in Babylon, they longed to return. Yet through the prophet Jeremiah, God gave them an unexpected calling: build homes, plant gardens, raise families, and seek the welfare of the city where they now lived.
Even in unfamiliar places, God invited His people to become a blessing.
Many newcomers live this calling every day. Refugees and immigrants enrich our neighborhoods as teachers, entrepreneurs, healthcare workers, volunteers, artists, students, and faithful friends. They strengthen our communities not by leaving their identity behind but by sharing the gifts God has entrusted to them.
The Church is called to see newcomers not simply through the lens of need, but through the lens of possibility. When we create communities of welcome, we make space for the gifts, talents, and dreams of every person to flourish.
As God blesses us, He also calls us to become a blessing to others.
Pilgrim’s Prayer
God of hope, thank You for working even in seasons of uncertainty and reminding us that no place is beyond Your presence. Today we pray for the people of Ukraine and for all who are rebuilding their lives far from home. Bring comfort to those who grieve, courage to those facing uncertainty, and peace to a nation longing for restoration.
Help us to recognize the gifts You have placed within every person. May our churches and communities become places where newcomers are welcomed, their talents celebrated, and together we seek the flourishing of our neighborhoods. Amen.
